Staring Light is the fifth album as Night Gestalt (not counting the soundtrack for The Art of Stillness in a Noisy World). After finishing the trilogy of One/New Glasir/Thousand Year Waves I wanted to get away from stories and feelings. I wanted to create music that was as simple and beatiful as light.

I recorded the music for Staring Light during the spring of 2022 with the aim to follow the light as the days in Sweden became longer and longer – investigating the different shades and gradients of the coming spring. The ritual was completed with the release of the music exactly one year later – mirroring the recording of the songs, and once again following the light.

I started Night Gestalt sort of as a love affair for arpeggios, and Staring Light is staying true to the idea. Apart from one song, there is only one note at a time throughout the whole record.

I love how arpeggios are so simple and yet consist of everything needed to make interesting music: rhythm, melody, harmony, and sound. And I love how you can hear every note. Nothing is hidden. The music is not trying to be anything it’s not, or trying to show off.

It just exists. Like light.

Staring Light is the first album I released in Atmos (spatial audio) as well as in stereo.

As always, the B-sides for the singles were pressed on unique vinyl records and buried in the ground. As far as I know none of these records have been found.
